Free 15-min Phone Consultation -
During a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation, Carly will gather key information about your child’s developmental history, specific challenges, and family concerns. She is interested in understanding your child’s typical behaviors, strengths/weaknesses, and daily routines. She will provide a brief explanation of what occupational therapy is and how it may help your family. This consultation serves as an opportunity to assess whether her services align with your family’s needs. If we decide to proceed, then we will schedule a comprehensive evaluation.

Evaluation Process -
Sensorimotor and/or Behavioral Evaluations:
Sensorimotor and/or behavioral evaluations with Mountain Kids OT are a comprehensive, 2-hour process designed to gain a deep understanding of your child’s unique strengths and areas of need. The evaluation begins with a detailed discussion with the caregiver about their concerns and goals for their child, along with a thorough review of your child’s birth, medical, and developmental history. Through clinical observations, Carly will assess your child’s sensory processing skills, motor coordination, and engagement in social and play activities. If additional insights are needed, standardized assessments may be administered. The evaluation concludes with a discussion of findings and the development of a personalized therapy plan tailored to your child’s specific needs and family goals.
Feeding Evaluations:
Feeding evaluations at Mountain Kids OT are also 2-hours which build upon the foundation of a sensorimotor evaluation while also incorporating a comprehensive review of your child’s feeding history, recorded videos of your child eating, and a detailed description of current mealtime routines, behaviors, and diet. Carly will share a meal with your child during the evaluation to observe oral motor skills and structure, sensory preferences, and behavioral responses during mealtime. The family will be asked to bring at least 3 preferred foods and 3 non-preferred foods into the feeding evaluation.
Treatment Process -
Sensorimotor and/or Behavioral Treatment Sessions:
Sensorimotor and behavior treatment sessions are typically 60-90 minutes long, once or twice a week, depending on your child’s needs and what works best for your family. Sessions are typically conducted in your child’s home to promote learning and skills in their most natural environment. However, therapy can also be held at a daycare, Mountain Kid OT’s sensory gym in East Cobb, or in public settings such as a park or library. Each session is thoughtfully designed to resemble play, creating a fun and engaging experience while targeting specific goals. Carly will continually adapt activities to meet your child’s ‘‘just right’ challenge. Parents are encouraged to be present to learn the strategies, techniques, and exercises needed to support your child’s growth at home.
Feeding Therapy Sessions:
Supporting children with picky or difficulty eating requires a special kind of relationship - one filled with trust and respect. Carly begins her feeding journey with new clients building a strong rapport as children learn best when they feel safe and calm. Then, through fun and engaging activities, Carly will teach your child the oral motor skills needed to safely manage food in their mouths, along with sensory calming strategies to reduce anxiety around trying new textures and flavors. Even the pickiest of eaters enjoy spending time learning about new foods with Carly! Caregivers will receive guidance on how to structure mealtimes to best support their child’s unique needs, including tips on how and when to introduce new foods. Ultimately, your child will approach family meals with confidence, a relaxed and open mind, and a growing sense of joy and curiosity about expanding their diet!
Discharge Process -
Discharge from Mountain Kids OT occurs when a child has met their goals, reached their maximum potential, or when the family feels confident to follow through with their home program. This decision is made collaboratively with the family, ensuring that everyone feels confident in the child’s progress and their ability to thrive. Once discharge has occurred, the family may keep Carly as a trusted resource.
